On Christmas Day 1993, Quincy became a member of our family when Jim surprised Chris with a Christmas puppy. Chris announced that his name was Quincy, and at only 10 weeks old, he was completely housebroken. Quincy immediately jumped into the hearts of all he met. He thought of himself and always acted like a grown up dog, except when it came to tennis balls or chasing cats. He never was put on a leash as he was naturally obedient and instinctively heeled like a pro, even though he was a puppy. Quincy went to work every day with Jim or Chris, either in the Warehouse or in a Cottura store. Remarkably, Quincy was the only living thing in Cottura’s almost 20 year history that never, ever, broke a piece of ceramic. He was huge for a Golden Retriever and always had a sense of his size and surrounding space. He never strayed, always waited for a human friend before venturing outside, didn’t eat human food unless put in his bowl, and once fed him a cookie, he expected to receive one each time he saw you. Quincy was featured with Jim, Chris and Michael for 10 years in the Cottura Catalog and Cottura.com. He served as Cottura’s official mascot, was the annual Warehouse Sale greeter, and protected us as the deep-voiced barking office watch dog. Being the gentle beast that he was, he also worked each December as "Quincy the Reindeer." He begrudgingly wore a pair of antlers (that weren’t his favorite) and would visit the stores to entertain Cottura holiday shoppers and their children while they shopped. Quincy enhanced our own lives, and the lives of those who knew him. He will be missed more than he could have ever imagined.
